A Martic Township resident is facing additional charges after state police searched his camper in Martic Township on July 3.
Melvin Hartman of 53 Nissley Ln. was already facing charges following a traffic stop in West Lampeter Township. During that stop, police found what appeared to be explosive devices in his vehicle. A motorcycle rider was seriously injured when his Harley Davidson rear ended a horse-drawn carriage on Christiana Pike (Rt. 372) at 10:24 a.m. on June 19, Trooper Michael Levinsky reported.
Someone broke into a home in Little Britain Township on June 16 or 17 and stole five buckets of paint, several rollers, and paint brushes, Trooper Matthew Schatzmann reported.
Quarryville police are looking for the man who broke into the Verizon Store, TownsEdge Shopping Village, and made off with numerous cell phones.
A woman from New York state has been charged with calling in the bomb threat that caused the evacuation of Yogi Bear Jellystone Campground on May 25.
Kristie L. Forkl, 41, of Lackawanna, N.Y., was charged with two counts of making terroristic threats and two counts of threatening to use a weapon of mass destruction, Trooper Kory Wardrop reported. Two local firms are among more than a dozen victims of a scam run for over two years, Trooper First Class Kelly Osborne reported last week.
Barbara E. Hogstrom, 50, of Turners Pond Dr., Lincoln University, is facing 50 counts of theft and bad checks, the trooper said. A man has been charged with attempted homicide for allegedly trying to kill another man with a machete, state police report.
According to police, Aaron Alexander Rowland, 20, got into a fight with a 24-year-old man at 703 Hollow Rd., Providence Township, and chased the older man outside where he stabbed him with a machete. The victim was taken to Lancaster General Hospital with a serious neck injury. The two men got into a fight over a TV remote control, police said. Rowland, 20, of New Providence, was arrested without incident at 2:20 p.m. on May 10, Trooper Nelson Renno reported. He was charged with attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and possession of instruments of a crime. Steven S. Stoltzfus, 15, of Green Ln. was killed in an accident on the family farm on Green Ln., Little Britain Township, on Tuesday afternoon, April 30.
According to police, Stoltzfus was getting ready to work a field and was hooking a 21-foot-long pipe to a mule. The mule spooked and started running toward Green Ln. Stoltzfus ran to catch the mul. When the mule turned back to the farm, the pipe hit a guardrail, broke the chain, and hit Stoltzfus. The boy was pronounced dead at the scene. Police also reported the following incidents in the Southern End: State police have a suspect in the robbery of Singing Spring Foods, 810 S. Vintage Rd., Bart Township, Trooper Anthony Urban reported.
According to the trooper, the suspect entered the store at 7:05 a.m. on April 23 and ordered the cashier to empty the register. The suspect is a middle-aged blonde woman who was wearing a flowered pattern shirt. Police did not say if the woman showed a weapon. The suspect fled without about $200 in cash, Trooper Urban said. Firefighters from three counties have been battling a sawmill fire on Little Britain Church Rd., Fulton Township, since 7:19 a.m. Thursday morning, April 18.
A physician practicing in East Drumore Township has been accused of indecent assault.
Dr. William R. Vollmar, who works at Diamantoni and Associates, Commerce Commons, was charged with misdemeanor indecent assault, state police said. The charges were filed April 10 and stemmed from an incident in the doctor's office on March 23. Police allege Dr. Vollmar inappropriately touched an adult patient's genitals without the patient's consent. Alicia Achelle Wilson, 24, of Quarryville, has been charged with breaking a window in a building on Scotland Rd. east of Lancaster Pike, East Drumore Township, at 5 p.m. on March 31, Trooper Matthew Weckesser reported. According to the trooper, Wilson threw a toy gun at the double pane window, causing damage in excess of $500.
A man from Delaware has been charged with assaulting another man last month and a woman from Kirkwood has been charged with conspiring in the assault, Quarryville Borough Police said last week.
Dozens of volunteer firefighters responded to a reported house fire on Hopkins Mill Rd. just off Truce Rd., Providence Township, shortly before noon on Tuesday, March 19.
Originally dispatched as a woods fire, it was quickly upgraded to a house fire. Arriving firefighters found the building engulfed in flames; neighbors said the building had been being demolished for several days. Fire police officers who had been directing traffic several miles away said smoke had been coming from the area all morning long. Volunteers and equipment from Rawlinsivlle were being assisted by firefighters and apparatus from Willow Street, West Willow, New Danville, Refton, Strasburg, Quarryville, and Strasburg. Alexander McDonald, 19, of Kirkwood, was charged with driving under the influence at 3:32 a.m. on March 16, Trooper Anthony Urban reported.
According to the trooper, a resident of Refton Rd., Strasburg Township, called police to report a suspicious vehicle in his driveway. Police found McDonald asleep behind the wheel and under the influence of alcohol and controlled substances, Trooper Urban said. State police also reported the following incidents in the Southern End: A 66-year-old man was struck by a vehicle and killed shortly before 6 a.m. on Thursday, February 28, Quarryville police reported.
David Hess of Quarryville was walking across W. 4th St. from the Turkey Hill Market to the parking lot of Good's Store when he was hit, Police Chief Clark Bearinger said. Hess was pronounced dead at the scene. He was struck by a vehicle driven by a 28-year-old woman from Little Britain Township who was driving west on 4th St. and approaching the traffic signal at W. State St. Police did not identify the woman whose vehicle hit Hess. The street was closed for more than four hours while the collision was investigated by the county accident reconstruction team. The collision remains under investigation, the police chief said. No charges have been filed. Police also reported the following incidents in the Southern End: Two people were hurt when an SUV and a compact car collided at the intersection of S. Lime St. and E. State St., Quarryville, at about 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 27. Quarryville firefighters used a Hurst rescue tool to free the driver of the white Honda. Two medic transport units were called to the scene. The intersection was closed as firefighters and emergency medical personnel worked the scene. State police are looking for the person who debited a business's bank account for more than $14,000, Trooper Nolen McElwee reported.
There were three unauthorized debits to E.H. Beiler Sawmill's account between January 22 and 28, the trooper said. The business is in the 900 block of Lancaster Pike (Rt. 272). Police also reported the following incidents: Cash found in TownsEdge Shopping Village last November has been turned over to the person who discovered it.
"We gave it back to the finder," Quarryville Police Chief Clark Bearinger said last week of the $600 discovered on November 17. Quarryville police are looking for the hit and run driver whose truck collided with a horse on W. State St. Thursday afternoon, February 25.
The diesel Ford pickup was passing a horse-drawn carriage in front of 250 W. State St. when the truck driver gunned his engine. Kyle Munro didn't miss a day of school during his last semester at Solanco High School.
But what he learned during the three hours before he headed off to class in his final semester at Solanco reinforced his decision about how he will spend much of his adult life. Munro will go to Lebanon Valley College in August where he will begin studying criminal justice. Two females are dead and a third remains in critical condition following an incident in East Drumore Township early this morning.
The unidentified suspect is in custody. Pennsylvania State Troopers Todd McCurdy and Aaron Dykes were dispatched at 2:20 a.m. on June 11 to 877 Spring Valley Road, East Drumore, for a reported injured female. That victim, a 15-year-old female, was transported to Lancaster General Hospital, where she is in critical, but stable, condition. And later transferred to Hershey Medical Center. Two additional females, a 44-year-old woman and her 16-year-old daughter, were found dead in the basement of the home. It is believed that the suspect is known to the victims and police stated that there are no public safety concerns at this time. The Lancaster County District Attorney's Office and the Lancaster County Coroner representative were notified. This case is under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Troop J Major Case Investigative Team. Ken Work will officially retire at the end of the day on Wednesday, December 31. He'll be back on the job in Quarryville's borough hall on Friday, January 2, 2015. After more than 13 years, Work is stepping down as the borough's police chief. He will continue to serve as borough manager. Work notified members of borough council of his decision on Monday night, July 7. It's a bittersweet decision, he said last week. "I've been a police officer for 43 years," he said. "It's tough to walk away after doing this so long.… It will be tough not to be a policeman. I've done that all my life since high school. There has never been a day when I haven't wanted to go to work. I couldn't imagine doing anything else." A reported standoff ended peacefully Thursday evening after a man was taken into custody and transported to a Lancaster hospital for a mental evaluation. Quarryville Borough police and an ambulance were called to the residence at the intersection of State St. and N. Church St. shortly after 6 p.m. on May 5. When they arrived, they were told the man had threatened to hurt someone if an officer tried to arrest him. Borough police then asked for troopers to back them up. The man was drunk, Quarryville Police Chief Ken Work said, and did not offer any resistance when he was detained. During the incident, fire police closed off State St. from Hess St. to Summit Ave. and N. Church St. Spectators watched from the lawn of the Wells Fargo Bank and the porch of Sam's Restaurant as the situation developed. |
